So
recessional is doing a meme, which is always interesting because of the vast panoply of characters she has in her head, and I saw "character who refuses to pull over and ask for directions on roadtrips" and put down my tea and went "HOLMES." And now I'm trying to figure out why.
He's generally sensible otherwise, but when it comes to roads and signs he (or she, this would work with Xu Lai and Jane is the only character in my head [apart from LAST Watson] who I can really imagine driving, though her ex got the car, and I actually know something about navigating around rural Ontario ... anyway) will not believe that she can't deduce the proper direction. In cities, you can absolutely trust her sense of direction anywhere, but once you're dealing with country roads she refuses to ask for directions and refuses to believe that she's wrong. And Jane doesn't know Ontario road conventions, so they do not fit well together. She's fine if you hold her down and tell her to READ THE GODDAMN MAP, and make sure she's doing it, but she won't do it willingly. And otherwise you just end up at the end of a gravel road spending the next half hour trying to find the name of the last road you saw on the map and ignoring everything she says.
Also she only wants classical music on the radio. Though come to think of it I could believe she listens to C-pop, not that Jane would find that an improvement.
Well, that went somewhere interesting. Now two more sentences and my
acd_holmesfest fic will be drafted.
