The Writing Process

1. Ooh, shiny new idea!


2. Okay, that scene, and then that one, and then if that happens I need that to happen over here, and then that happens near the end, and… (>50% of the actual writing occurs here.)


3. Dammit, how do plots work?


4. Wait, shouldn’t I work on [older idea]? *opens file* *changes three words*


5. Ooh, shiny new idea!


6. [Repeat steps 2-5 at least twice]


7. Right, okay, I am going to work on [original idea] today.


8. *changes three words then wanders off to look at something else*


9. [Repeat steps 7-8 at least twice]


10. Right, okay, I am actually going to work on [original idea] today.


11. Hey, wait, I’m closer to being finished this than I thought.


12. (Two hours later) ...but I still have to write that damn transitional scene, dammit.


13. Maybe if I leave it for a bit it’ll write itself come to me.


14. [Optional: repeat steps 1-6]


15. Ugghhhhhhh.


16. Okay, that’s a draft. And it is the worst and I hate it.


17. *leaves it alone for a week*


18. Okay, this is not the worst and I can edit it.


19. Hey, this needs less editing than I thought.


20. Okay, I think this is done.


21. Fuck, now I need to think of a title.
